Matthew Perry: What Happens After Coming Out?

  • 400 Selby Lane Atherton, CA, 94027 United States (map)

Join us Sunday, January 29, for another wonderful Hearth gathering! We're delighted to have Matthew Perry, a member of the Hearth community, as our speaker this month.

Over the past twenty years, both fear of and likelihood of being ostracized from the church community have sunk appreciably for LGBT members. More people than ever are coming out, and so more people than ever are facing a question: how does one live as a queer Mormon?

Some people find a workable answer in the church’s limited direction, and stay; many more find Mormonism untenable, and leave. Come explore how we as individuals might contribute to an answer that’s not just workable, but sustaining for ourselves and our loved ones.

Matt came out in 2006. He was a teenager from California at BYU for the entire Prop 8 cycle, and boy did that suck. Still, he pushed through and is currently a member of the Stanford 1st ward. When he grows up, he wants to be a novelist or a stay at home dad, but for now he’s the communications quarterback for research distribution at Stanford Graduate School of Business.
