From the time we are a small child growing up in the church, we learn about listening to the personal inspiration that is available to all of us as we go about our life’s journey. Sometimes it can take great courage to really listen to that inspiration, especially when it points us towards a path that looks different than expected. We are excited to have Laura Root joining us for our November Hearth Fireside, as she shares her experience of doing just that.
Laura will share what it was like for her as an adult coming to terms with being both a lesbian and an active member of the LDS faith. She will also talk about what her experience has been like since, as she has continued her activity in the church, but now does so while being openly gay and married to another woman. Laura’s testimony of the gospel has deepened as she has followed her own spiritual journey. Her wife Lynette will also be joining us and will share her perspective of being married to a Latter-day Saint who remains active in the faith.
Laura will be visiting us from Boise Idaho, where she has lived for the past 20 years. She has been active in the LDS faith her entire life, including serving an LDS mission and fulfilling several leadership positions. About 3 ½ years ago she courageously faced her sexuality and then came out publicly 2 ½ years ago. Listening to her heart, she began dating a woman around that same time and 18 months later they married. She continues to attend church weekly. Her spiritual journey is one that looks to strengthen her relationship with God while she focuses on being the best wife she can be.
